New Newfoundland and Labrador marketing campaign

Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism has just launched its 2009 marketing campaign. They came up with some pretty impressive ads. They’re not quite the Canada. Keep Exploring brand, but nevertheless, evoke a lot of emotion about Newfoundland and Labrador. See also this article in the Globe with some background on the campaign.

Great stories about Nunavut

We just published a set of great stories about Nunavut – in celebration of the territory’s 10th anniversary on April 1.

My favourite one is the story on Quttinirpaaq National Park on northern Ellesmere Island. Would love to go there some day!

New York Times destinations of the year 2009

The NYT just published their trips of the year again. This time, 44 destinations, but none in Canada. Some odd choices, but also some good ones, like Bhutan.

brilliant marketing campaign

Tourism Queensland has just launched a pretty brilliant marketing campaign. You get to apply for “the best job in the world” – being a caretaker on a small island in the Great Barrier Reef for 6 months. And get paid A$150K for feeding the fish, cleaning the pool a bit and reporting on what there is to do in the area. Pretty much a social media reporter for Tourism Queensland. But of course the job is getting TONS of free press, and thousands of applicants, so much of the viral activity is happening long before the person starts blogging. See the publicity on BBC News, – it is the most emailed story of the day.
